Hi,
I am the author of World Time Manger and its predecessors. Here is my story for you:
I came to Australia in the early 90s together with my wife. We left all our friends and relatives behind, because they were all scared of flying.
Phone calls where so expensive back then, so calling overseas was a well planned event where the whole family gathered and every minute on the phone cost as much as a lunch in a restaurant. Working out what time it was back home was just one of those important things you did when planning that big event. Although somtimes that was hard work and ended up in heated discussions.
Later on when phone calls were starting to get cheaper and my parents got older, we started to get calls at 2 o’clock in the morning: “Oh sorry I thought it was such and such time”. Ok it happened to me too. It was quite embarrassing waking someone who I never met because I rang them at 4:30 in the morning thinking it was 8:30 am.
Luckily I had a computer and so I decided to write my first World Time program. It was in DOS nobody had heard of Windows then, but it had nice graphics and it did the trick real good.
Unfortunately I was the only one who had that program and since my friends and relatives still kept ringing me at all sorts of hours, so I started to unplug the phone at night
. Although the one time I forgot, you could bet the phone rang that night with the person on the other end explaining how they thought we were still up, or some other stupid excuse.
So I decided to do something about this lack of eductation around me and the idea of a publically available world clock computer program was conceived. Once Microsoft Windows was well established I felt compelled to take up software writing again and after a few smaller projects I decided to develop my first commercial version. I decided to call it World Time by Utech and it was an instant success.
The response from people around the world was amazing. It kept me motivated to keep improving this great little ripper. And so, a few years later, as new technology became available to me, I wrote the second commercial world clock program.
Today World Time Manager is a mature and stable program used by thousands and thousands of users around the world.
